Midsummer Nötö maypole Guest House Backaro B&B

Sunny Midsummer at the School

24Jun

You could tell from the atmosphere in the village. Midsummer is here. The sun is shining and most people look extra happy! This me and Ida noticed when we met our new guests at the harbor; the boat was full of people wanting to celebrate midsummer on the archipelago islands!

Our guests asked us if we could prepare our wood heated sauna and our grill house for them. They also asked us if we could prepare dinner for them. Good thing Joakim at the café (the old school) could smoke some salmon and make sour scream sauce for us. We walked to the village shop Nötöboden to buy some archipelago bread, some new early potatoes and some dill to top it off with. Ida also made some fresh bread. I have to admit that we were a bit proud of ourselves, because this combination turned out to be very nice! 🙂

Then we went to the old school Café Skolan to raise the maypole, which is a Finnish tradition, especially in the archipelago. Our day ended with an evening party at the school yard. Thank you to everyone who arranged this! And thank you to everyone who helped to dress the maypole by picking meadow flowers and bringing them to the pole – the atmosphere was very nice! Look at pictures of the whole day below.

Now we raise the maypole!

Meanwhile at Backaro B&B our guests are enjoying their smoked salmon…

The children are playing on the schoolyard…… 🙂

Good DJ at the school

The Highlander cows are wondering where the music is coming from.

There´s no party without balloons 🙂

Our kind and pleased guests are using Backaro´s grill house.

For many it’s a tradition to spend one’s midsummer days out in the archipelago. The village atmosphere in Nötö really suits midsummer. Thank you!
