ST OLAV´S PATH
WHY THE ISLAND OF NÖTÖ?
The island of Nötö, one of Nauvo´s idyllic islands, is situated in the heart of the Finnish Archipelago National park. On the island you will find different services, such as accommodation, shop and café/restaurant (the island´s old school). Earlier the island inhabited over 280 people, and even though that was several hundred years ago, the island´s village life and nature is incredibly well preserved. On a guided tour through the island, one of the locals will tell you all about the island´s wooden chapel (inaugurated year 1757), and why the church was of such importance for the population of the island and the surrounding islands. Today weddings and somewhat frequent services are held at the chapel. On the guided tour you will even get to hear about the old “klockarsten”-stone and its´ several smooth cavities, which when hit on emits different metallic tones. These tones are very similar to those of church bells.
Year 2016 both a Nature Trail and a Culture Trail was created on Nötö. With the help of a mobile map, navigating along the trail is very easy. Using the map, you can familiarize yourself with the island’s various services, cultural history (farms, prehistoric sights, etc.), and natural attractions. The map is powered by Google Maps, and can be found here.
